Continuum Services: Transition to Adulthood
As students complete high school and begin adult life, they and their families face many options and decisions about the future. For students with disabilities, these choices may be complex and require a great deal of planning. The most common choices for the future involve pursuing vocational training or further academic education, getting a job, and living independently. The transition process, mandated by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2008) and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvaniaʼs Special Education Regulations and Standards, insures that this planning process occurs. Students, parents, schools, and community resources work collaboratively to guarantee that the student entering the adult world has every opportunity to succeed.
