Dr. Charles Lentz was appointed the Superintendent of Schools October 11, 2018 and assumed his post as Superintendent on December 12, 2019. Dr. Lentz was excited to join the highly acclaimed New Hope-Solebury School District and values the district’s commitment to excellence and its mission to strive to inspire and empower its students to become passionate, confident, life-long learners, with the skills and strength of character to contribute to a diverse and ever-changing world.
Dr. Lentz was born in Abington, Pennsylvania and graduated from Abington High School. He pursued a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in history at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1994. He completed his first Masters of Arts Degree in Education at Gratz College in Melrose Park, Pennsylvania in 1998 and his second Masters of Science Degree in Educational Leadership at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania in 2003. He obtained his Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania in 2012.
Dr. Lentz began his teaching career in education in the Abington School District teaching fourth and sixth grades at Highland Elementary School. He was appointed Assistant Principal of Abington Junior High School in July of 2002. He served in this role until 2008 when he was appointed principal of McKinley Elementary School. Dr. Lentz served as principal of McKinley Elementary School for nine years until he was appointed the Assistant Director of Curriculum for Abington School District in July of 2017, a position he held until his appointment as Superintendent of New Hope-Solebury School District.
In addition to his work in his professional roles, Dr. Lentz has been extensively involved in the community through his work serving as a Trustee and Board Chairman of Arcadia University’s Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Abington Community Taskforce, President of the Welsh Society of Philadelphia, and the Commander of MOLLUS. Dr. Lentz has also been actively involved other community organizations including the Academy of Music, the Dream Builders Optimist Club of Elkins Park, the Kiwanis Club of Glenside, the Wistar Institute, Briar Bush Nature Center, the Union Library of Hatborough and many other community, historical and cultural organizations.
Dr. Lentz recently completed Pennsylvania Association of School Administrator's New Superintendent Certification Program, the National Superintendent Certification Program through the American Association of School Administrators and the Superintendent Academy through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. All of these programs help to enhance his work with students, faculty, and staff of the New Hope-Solebury School District. Dr. Lentz is an active member of PASA, AASA, ASCD and several other professional organizations.
