Student Peer Leaders influence our younger students tremendously. Peer Leaders are juniors or seniors who have strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, organizational skills, the ability to empathize with others, and those who have a genuine love for people.  Peer Leaders mentor, guide, and develop lasting relationships with 8th and 9th grade students through ongoing groups, as a means of transitioning into high school. Peer Leaders are relied upon throughout the year for mentoring new students, volunteering for school events, tutoring other students and assisting the guidance department if needed.  
 
Being invited to be a Peer Leader is a high honor that is earned by a very small number of students. Each year, we receive dozens of applications from wonderful students, but we are only able to accept a very limited number of new peer leaders. Peer Leadership requires a significant time commitment in the fall and spring to help mentor younger students. Given the nature of this responsibility, Peer Leadership must be a top priority for those who apply. If you are unable to commit to Peer Leadership due to other responsibilities, different opportunities such as peer tutoring or individual mentoring may be more appropriate for your time constraints.

The selection process for Peer Leadership occurs towards the end of the school year and involves multiple steps.  You will be responsible for submitting two components of the application: a written essay and a video response to a few interview questions. After applications are submitted, we gather feedback from faculty and current peer leaders as part of the selection process. Teacher input is weighed very heavily in the selection process. Applications and video responses must be submitted through Canvas and no late applications will be accepted.
